Telecoms, what an ugly past they have

This list of crimes and bad practices is just wow.

Divided territories, Absorption of competitors, Deregulation, Tying, Product sabotage, Usury, Bribery/Blackmail, Extortion, Business ethics, Refusal to deal.

Very few other businesses spread so far in the activities that these people do.
  • They make sure they don't overlap coverage areas as not to compete with each other so to keep prices high to customers.
  • They create bundle packages of all their services, even though a service is offered from the same provider does not mean the different services should be gotten as a bundle.  This is often used as a scam to show a short term low entry price that later explodes in cost and contract terms.
  • They jack up pricing for no reason at all or even pass on lawsuits, fines and penalties to the customer instead of eating into profits as intended.
  • They buy out any competition that springs up in their coverage area.
  • The bribe politicians to change regulations, laws and legislation in their favor.
  • Often give better deals to businesses over the same hardware and lines in the same area then residents.  These deals come at a cheaper cost, but require the customer to be a listed business first.
  • They charge high cost add on's on the monthly bill for equipment while that monthly cost add-on never goes away no matter how long or how much you pay for the equipment.
  • Unresponsive or uncooperative customer service that is often staffed by people that don't even natively speak the nations own language.
  • Charge for technician visit work even if the problem is entirely the businesses fault.
  • They set prices regionally instead of a flat rate nationally.
  • They throttle and monitor traffic.
  • They will refuse to work some hub provider's unless paid extra by the hub provider to do so.
  • They refuse to authorize outdoor box to address work and upgrades unless paid extra by the customer even though all outside equipment and work is 100% responsibility of the business.
  • They place and charge data caps when the cost of operation is $0.60 1GBps, per individual at 10MBps (100Mbps) of $500/year.  And yeah...how much do you pay per month.
  • Created Mbps (Megabit) as a way to con the unknowing into thinking they are getting more speed when they actually aren't.  Internet speeds before cable became wide spread it was MBps (Megabyte).
Because of how wide spread the garbage is, they have been brought up in front of congressional communities over their practices often.  Regulation like Net Neutrality was put in place because enough of the telecom's did do unethical acts and continue to do so.

---

Update, GDPR has put a tight reign on data security flowing over the internet.  This prevents ISPs from doing anything with the data other then allowing to flow while at the same time forcing them to protect that data.

----

If fed gave the minimum internet 25d/3u free to everyone with no data cap, they would just need $3/m tax over head for it.  50% of residents would be paying for faster net at 50% markup in addition to paying that tax which would cover those getting the service tax free.

Data caps are in truth put there to include people to use their TV or streaming service.  Data caps serve no other financial reason, they are a profiteering scam.
