Public transit, use not realized
Public transit has a lot of pit falls.
Far too much public transit is used for profit with little care about riders. Now in light of profit some forms work fine for profit as in the small number rider types like Taxi's. Taxi's don't really reduce impact of traffic on roads and in effect paying someone to drive you with the same impact of you driving your self and thusly should cost more then to drive your self.
Bus use for use outside of town gets more costly to use over literally everything else. So the busing companies that run the systems running that are not owned by a city or county is incredibly subsidized to make running the bus profitable while making the bus ticket cheaper then other options.
Train is grossly under used for every occasion. Short bus and large van is also under used.
A ' plane ' is both cost economical and not. For travel exceeding 600 miles train starts going down in favor to a plane, but shorter trips a plane costs more in fuel per mile per passenger.
To make all this mess worse which the air travel industry does most is travel time and cost is adjusted based on: city, day of week and station used. None of that should matter, it should be physical distance only for time and cost. What they are doing is playing favorites and trying to get people to use one location over another, that is profiteering. Train times and cost looks to be fair with no favorites. Buses are grossly subsidized to be unfairly cheaper.

Here's the other end of this mess. The automotive industry in the past has bought up sections of rail line just to decommission it all in an effort to force individuals to go out and buy personal cars to boost sales of cars. This is why there are no more ' street cars ' or ' trams '. More on this fire is road designs, those that are designed to slow or reduce traffic does not favor any traffic but personal cars, not even walking. They even place points of interest far enough apart to discourage walking on top of not having direct routes or foot paths.
- Public school bus, unsafe with no seat belts and driver's needing to spend more time watching kids then driving.
- Lack of public transit options outside of very large cities.
- Subidized to reduce costs while creating profit from one type misused in place of another.
- Rider safety in more then one way; physical, biological, and mental.
